The Cowichan Valley school board has given unanimous approval to building a $90-million replacement for the aging Cowichan Valley Secondary.
The current school is 68 years old and is located on James Street, just off the Trans-Canada Highway. A replacement structure would be built on adjacent district-owned land.
Other options considered by trustees included a seismic upgrade or increasing capacity from 1,000 to 1,500 students.
The issue is now in the hands of the Ministry of Education, which will make a final funding decision.
