B.C. reported 395 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the number of active cases in the province to 3,284. Seventy-one people were in hospital, including 23 in intensive care.

There were 31 new cases in Island Health, bringing the number of active cases in the health authority to 218. Interior Health saw the most new cases, 187, on Tuesday, with the fewest new cases, 15, reported in Northern Health.

No new deaths were reported on Tuesday, leaving the overall total at 1,777.

On Tuesday, 82.1 per cent or 3.8 million eligible people age 12 and older in B.C. had received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 70.6 per cent or 3.2 million were fully vaccinated.

There were seven active outbreaks in long-term care homes, including at Discovery Harbour in Campbell River. The others were at Holyrood Manor, Kin Village West Court (Fraser Health), and Nelson Jubilee Manor, Kootenay Street Village, Cottonwoods Care Centre and Brookhaven Care Centre (Interior Health).

Island Health said there has been no change in the status of the outbreak in the Campbell River home, where three health care workers tested positive for COVID-19. No residents or other staff have tested positive, said Island Health.

The three health care workers were fully vaccinated, but were working in a home where, as of last week, just 60 per cent of all staff were vaccinated against the virus.

As of last week, 9,555 long-term care staff on the Island had received at least one dose of vaccine, while 9,370 had received both doses. As well, 1,474 assisted living staff on the Island had received one dose, and 1,446 were fully vaccinated.
