Nanaimo RCMP are trying to identify a man seen in surveillance video taken at the Gold and Silver Guy jewelry store Aug. 10.

It is alleged that he broke into the store at 619 Townsite Rd. at 5:36 a.m. and stole several pieces of jewelry, as well as other items.

The owner called police after getting to work and finding that a small window about a foot wide was open. It’s not known why the store’s alarm did not activate.

Police looked over a video from the store and saw a man pick up several coins, $2 bills and an antique scale. He made an unsuccessful attempt to break into a display case, and then left.

The owner told police that two men wearing bandanas were seen outside the store with flashlights about an hour earlier.

The man in the video is described as in his early 20s and white with short hair. He was wearing a baggy jacket with lettering on the sleeves.

Call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 with any information.
