Nanaimo RCMP ask for help to find person of interest in Makayla Chang murder case

Nanaimo RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man they believe has information related to a murder case.

Investigators in the Serious Crime Unit said 59-year-old Steven Michael Bacon of Nanaimo is a person of interest in the Makayla Chang murder investigation.

Chang was found dead in 2017.

“At this point, we have exhausted all avenues of investigation and have been unable to locate Mr. Bacon,” said Sgt. Rob Graves, who leads the Serious Crimes Unit. “While we cannot rule out that he is in Nanaimo or remains on Vancouver Island, we have been unable to locate him and are now asking the entire country to help us, as we believe he has important information.”

Bacon is described as white, 200 pounds and five-foot-10 with grey hair and/or grey facial hair.

He has a distinctive tear-drop tattoo under his left eye, a Bugs Bunny tattoo on his upper right arm and an unidentified tattoo on the back of his right hand.

Bacon may be going by other names such as Michael Dufour, Michael Vincent Defoure, Steven Michael/Mike Vincent, or Mike Jannis. He is known to use public transit.
