Traffic in the Comox Valley was brought to a stop mid-morning Wednesday by a wayward motorhome taking the scenic route along the Inland Island Highway.

Comox Valley RCMP said they received multiple calls reporting a motorhome been driven erratically in the area of Thompson Road and Island Highway South in Royston.

Reports varied from the vehicle was moving too fast, going the wrong way and crossing the centre line, as well as side-swiping another vehicle.

“All of our available police officers in the area responded to the call due to the severity of the erratic driving,” said Const. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP. “We are all very thankful nobody was hurt.”

The 41-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested and remains in custody as police investigate.

The Inland Island Highway was closed for a short period of time.

Comox Valley RCMP are asking the public for dashcam footage of the motorhome in action. Anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP at 250-338-1321.
