Mobility scooter hit by pickup while crossing highway in Ladysmith

An elderly man was treated in hospital for injuries suffered when his mobility scooter was hit by a pickup truck on the Trans-Canada Highway in Ladysmith on Thursday. The incident happened about 3 p.m.

An elderly man was treated in hospital for injuries suffered when his mobility scooter was hit by a pickup truck on the Trans-Canada Highway in Ladysmith on Thursday.

The incident happened about 3 p.m. when the man was crossing the highway from Ludlow Road to 1st Avenue. The pickup was turning left from Ludlow onto the highway.

The impact knocked the scooter over and sent the man onto the pavement.

“Both the scooter and pickup truck have been seized for further inspection,” said B.C. RCMP spokesman Cpl. Chris Manseau. “The scooter driver was transported by B.C. Ambulance to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the driver has fully co-operated with the investigation.”

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.
