Two Victoria men charged with the second-degree murder of Shawn Campbell in September 2018 appeared in provincial court Monday.

Nathan Monsour, 33, appeared in person wearing a red sweatshirt and sweatpants issued by the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre. Mounsour, who has a shaved head and a dark beard and mustache, was represented in court by defence lawyer Chantelle Sutton.

The proceedings cannot be reported because of a publication ban.

Monsour is to appear in court again on April 6.

Lee Hart, 38, who is also charged with assaulting Neil Albrecht with a weapon on Sept. 29, 2018, appeared by video from the Richmond courthouse.

He is to appear in Victoria provincial court on Wednesday morning.

Saanich police were called to the 3900 block of Carey Road about 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 29, 2018, and discovered a man with life-threatening injuries. He died in hospital four days later.

At the time, Saanich police spokeswoman Sgt. Julie Fast said police believed the attack was targeted, those involved were known to each other and the public was not at risk.

Saanich police cordoned off areas near a residence on Carey Road in Saanich and a residence on Granderson Road in Langford.

Due to the severity of the man’s injuries, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit was asked to assist.
