A mechanical problem with the Coastal Renaissance resulted in cancelled sailings Friday morning.

A mechanical problem with the Coastal Renaissance on the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route led to a three-sailing wait Friday morning, with B.C. Ferries recommending travellers switch to the Duke Point-Tsawwassen route.

The problem on the ship, one of three vessels operating on the route, led to the cancellation of the 6:25 a.m. sailing from Departure Bay and the 8:45 a.m. sailing from Horseshoe Bay.

The ship was repaired and returned to service late in the morning. The ferry corporation added an extra round trip late in the day.

B.C. Ferries says it has seen an increase in traffic volume since the lifting of travel restrictions, although it is not back to pre-pandemic levels.

It reported some overloads at peak times – during the Canada Day long weekend and weekends.

The corporation is now operating on its summer schedule, with extra sailings on all routes.
