Man with handgun steals cash drawer from Saanich liquor store

Saanich police are investigating after a man with a handgun ran off with the cash drawer Wednesday from Maude Hunter’s liquor store on Shelbourne Street.

Saanich police are investigating after a man with a handgun ran off with the cash drawer Wednesday from Maude Hunter’s liquor store on Shelbourne Street.

Police said a man wearing a black ski mask, a black hoodie and black pants approached the cashier about 4:25 p.m. and produced a handgun. He grabbed the cash drawer and fled down Shelbourne.

Police responded immediately but the man was not located.

“Our officers are still out gathering information, speaking to witnesses and obtaining video surveillance,” said Saanich police Const. Markus Anastasiades.” Anytime there is mention of a firearm involved in an incident such as this, we treat it with the highest safety priority.”

He said police reached out to the employee involved to offer support.

Call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 with any information. As well, people who were driving in Shelbourne/Cedar Hill Cross Road area at the time are asked to check dashcam footage.
