Victoria police are on the hunt for a man who broke into an Oaklands home while two teenage girls were inside.

The two girls were in the home on Friday afternoon when they heard the doorbell ring. They didn’t answer, but heard the man open the mailbox. The man went around to the back door and was able to open it by reaching through an unsecured window, said Victoria police spokesman Bowen Osoko.

As the intruder entered the home, he was met by one of the teens. He fled the home.

The teens called a parent, who in turn called 911.

Several patrol officers responded just before 12:30 p.m., but were unable to find the intruder.

The girls were shaken but uninjured.

The man is described as Caucasian in his 50s with long, grey and brown hair and stubble. He was wearing a blue/turquoise sweater, and a blue and red baseball hat.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Victoria Police at 250-995-7654 or report anonymously through Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
