A man began swinging an election sign and threatening to kill a woman and her husband after she denied his request for a cigarette, Oak Bay police say.

Police said the incident happened Oct. 11 in the 2500-block of Beach Drive.

“He also threatened police when we arrived and continually reached into his pockets, despite police direction not to do so,” said Oak Bay Deputy Police Chief Ray Bernoties, adding a Saanich officer also attended the scene and the man was ultimately arrested without incident.
