Loaded assault-style rifle discovered on a wanted woman following arrest

A woman has been arrested after Victoria police found a loaded, heavily modified, assault-style .22 calibre rifle in her possession.

Police officers on patrol in the parking lot of a multi-unit temporary housing facility in the 100-block of Gorge Road East shortly after 5:30 a.m. March 17 recognized a woman wanted for failing to attend court in relation to a previous drug-trafficking and weapons possession investigation.

Officers arrested the woman a short distance away.

When they searched her, they discovered she was carrying a modified assault-style rifle, loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition in the magazine. They also found ammunition for other firearms as well.

The woman was transported to Victoria police cells where she was being held awaiting court.

She faces several firearms-related recommended charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm.
