A Sooke man brandishing a knife and angry over having no power in his home has been arrested after allegedly threatening a crew installing a power pole near his property.

Sooke RCMP said the man had an 11-inch knife and was waving it around in a threatening manner during the incident last Tuesday at about 8:30 p.m.

“The male was intoxicated and expressed his displeasure in the amount of time it was taking to return power to his home,” Sgt. Kevin Shaw said in a statement.

The man was taken into custody held for court on recommended charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

“This incident was an unprovoked act of aggression against people working in our community and is an example of the unpredictable and often dangerous situations that our officers respond to,” said Shaw. “Fortunately, in this instance, no one was hurt, and the male was taken into custody safely.
