The Vancouver Island Raiders Football Club lost about $15,000 worth of equipment when a locker room in a downtown Nanaimo park was broken into.

Nanaimo RCMP said the theft took place between 10 p.m. Sept. 14 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Comox Park Gyro 1.

Six black Threadscape-brand duffle bags with the Raiders logo on them were stolen. Inside the bags were 80 practice jerseys, pads, footballs and 10 new helmets with red face masks.

“This is a significant loss to a very important Nanaimo sporting institution that has brought a lot of joy to the community,” said Const. Simon Gallimore.

The team has just started its 2021 B.C. Football Conference season.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call Nanaimo police at 250-754-2345.
