Victoria police said one person was arrested and taken to hospital after an hours-long standoff near Beacon Hill Park Sunday.
Police and tactical officers with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team flooded the 1000-block of Southgate Street between Cook and Vancouver around 5 p.m. Some nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.
Victoria police did not say if a weapon was involved or what made the incident a high enough risk to summon the ERT.
By 9 p.m., someone was arrested and taken to hospital. The department said in a message on Twitter that respect for privacy limits what they can share about the incident. No one was injured, it said.
