The Hotel Grand Pacific in downtown Victoria plans to reopen June 21.

General manager Reid James said Friday that operations and staffing levels at the 304-room hotel will be at a minimum to ensure safe distancing.

“We will be working to ensure we keep you safe and healthy during your stay with us. Rest assured, we will take no chances with your well being and we will be exceeding the standards you expect of us,” James wrote in an email.

He said for now, food and beverage options will be limited and the pools, sauna and steam room will be closed. The hotel hopes to open its gym subject to provincial guidelines before reopening the hotel.

The Grand Pacific and Empress Hotel closed their doors in late March amid the COVID-19 outbreak. The Grand Pacific laid off about 170 employees. About 480 employees at the Empress were affected.

There was no immediate word on when the Empress will reopen.
