Ferry service between Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay, above, will resume June 3 for the first time since March.

Work is set to begin on some major infrastructure maintenance at B.C. Ferries’ Horseshoe Bay terminal in West Vancouver.

After setting up this week, crews will be doing concrete restoration work on the terminal’s elevated vehicle transfer deck, a project expected to last until July.

While the work is going on, ferry passengers should expect some extra noise and changes to traffic patterns for loading and unloading.

Some work will take place overnight to minimize the effect on ferry sailings. Vessels departing Horseshoe Bay go to Bowen Island, the Sunshine Coast and Departure Bay in Nanaimo.

“The work may increase the normal sound levels within the terminal Monday to Friday between 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and throughout the night for the first two months of the project,” a statement from the corporation said.

Earplugs will be available upon request for customers who have to wait near the job site.

Over the longer term, B.C. Ferries still intends to redevelop the terminal, but the corporation says budgeting has been impacted by COVID-19.
