HMCS Winnipeg casts off for the Asia-Pacific region on Tuesday

HMCS Winnipeg is casting off to join Operation Projection and Operation Neon with a sail-past salute at Duntze Head on Tuesday. The Halifax-class frigate will be deployed to the Asia-Pacific region on Operation Projection from August to December.

HMCS Winnipeg is casting off to join Operation Projection and Operation Neon with a sail-past salute at Duntze Head on Tuesday.

The Halifax-class frigate will be deployed to the Asia-Pacific region on Operation Projection from August to December.

While in the region, HMCS Winnipeg will take part in Operation Neon, a co-ordinated multinational effort to support the implementation of United Nations Security Council sanctions imposed against North Korea.

A departure ceremony will include speeches by Rear Admiral Angus Topshee, commander of Maritime Forces Pacific, and Cmdr. Doug Layton, commanding officer of HMCS Winnipeg.

The ceremony will take place between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. at Her Majesty’s Canadian Dockyard Esquimalt.
