Heavy rains cause sewage overflows at Victoria-area beaches

Water officials warn Saturday’s heavy rainfall has forced stormwater and waste water onto sections of Victoria-area beaches. The Capital Regional District says people should avoid affected beaches and entering the waters due to health risks.

Water officials warn Saturday’s heavy rainfall has forced stormwater and waste water onto sections of Victoria-area beaches.

The Capital Regional District says people should avoid affected beaches and entering the waters due to health risks.

Island Health and municipalities will be posting warnings at the beaches until tests indicate bacteria levels are safe.

Affected areas include:

• Between Rutland Road (Oak Bay) and Seaview Road including Cadboro Bay.

• Between Trafalgar Park and Radcliffe Lane including McNeil Bay in Oak Bay.

• Between Fraser Street and Victoria View Road in Esquimalt.
