Victoria police flew into action to get a lost bird home to its owner.

Officers on foot patrol near View and Government streets about 9 p.m. Thursday were approached by a group of tourists who had found the bright yellow pet bird. They handed it to the officers in the hope that they could find its home.

The Lutino Indian ringneck was content to sit on the shoulder of Sgt. Jeremy Preston while pictures were taken of it to post on social media. The bird was soon showcased on VicPDCanada Twitter, Victoria Facebook, Esquimalt Division Facebook and VicPDCanada Instagram.

The owner saw the bird on the Instagram post and called the detachment to arrange a safe return.
