Victoria police say they are expecting traffic disruptions in the downtown area Saturday due to a protest and march against the logging of old-growth forests.

The event is set to run from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a base at the legislature. Police officers will be on site.

Three other protests are planned over the weekend, but none is anticipated to lead to traffic issues.

On Saturday, an event to bring attention to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirited people, called MMIWG2S Takes Back Canada, is planned for Centennial Square at noon.

Sunday brings two more: one against the expansion of the Trans-Mountain pipeline and one dealing with anti-Asian hate.

On Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., Dogwood Initiative supporters plan to create a “red line of resistance” along Dallas Road to demonstrate against the Trans-Mountain pipeline project.

At the legislature from 2 to 4 p.m., a rally will be held as part of Stop Asian Hate events across Canada.

Police said peaceful assembly is allowed as long as protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are in place.
