The Capital Regional District marked the completion of the first two phases of the E&N Rail Trail and Humpback Connector on Tuesday.

The bike and pedestrian trail is being constructed largely within the E&N rail corridor. When complete, it will be 17 kilometres in length and link Langford, View Royal, the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, Esquimalt and Victoria. To date, 12 kilometres of the trail is complete.

The Capital Regional District has received $20 million in grants for the trail, including $16 million from the federal Gas Tax Fund and $1 million from the province’s Bike B.C. Cycling Infrastructure Program.

The E&N Rail Trail received about 400,000 visits in 2018.
