A single mother and her daughter are dealing with the aftermath of a fire that heavily damaged their Port Alberni home.
The Port Alberni Fire Department received a 911 call about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday about a house fire on Third Avenue.
“On arrival crews found heavy fire coming out three sides of the building,” said Deputy Fire Chief Wes Patterson.
No one was in the home at the time.
Patterson said flames were coming out some of the windows. The fire also got into the roof, he said.

Crews were there until 3:30 a.m. making sure the fire was fully out, and the home continued to be under watch after that.
Firefighters were able to protect a neighbouring house that was just over a metre away, Patterson.
One of the family’s three cats is missing.
