RCMP say an early-morning fire on South Alder Street in Campbell River was deliberately set, the third such instance at the home over the past year.

Police were alerted to the fire about 2 a.m. Monday. The occupants told officers they were jarred awake by a loud noise, then heard smoke alarms.

Upon going outside, one of the occupants saw a fire by a door. The blaze was quickly extinguished with a hose.

Fire officials and police determined the fire had been deliberately set. Police are calling the fire a “targeted event,” but said the occupants are new to the home and were not the target of the attack.

Campbell River RCMP are investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
