If you’re heading out to Witty’s Lagoon Regional Park in Metchosin, be prepared for a hike through the woods.

The Capital Regional District’s Parks Department has closed the stairs to the main beach because erosion has made them unsafe, said spokeswoman Laurie Sthamann.

A third-party engineering firm assessed the stairs and as a result of its findings, the stairs will be closed for the remainder of the year.

Visitors can reach the beach via a 1.2-kilometre beach trail through the forest.

Those who cannot manage the trek can enjoy picnic areas and beach views accessible via a 500-metre flat footpath from Tower Point, off Olympic View Drive.
