Driver flees then turns herself in after striking woman in crosswalk

A 32-year-old woman turned herself in to Nanaimo RCMP Friday after first fleeing when she ran a red light and hit a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

A 32-year-old woman turned herself in to Nanaimo RCMP Friday after first fleeing when she ran a red light and hit a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

A 60-year-old woman was struck at the intersection of Terminal Avenue and Commercial Street about 9:30 a.m.

After the driver fled, she drove to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment, where she was quickly arrested for dangerous driving and failure to remain at the scene of an accident, and put in a police cell.

The victim was treated in hospital for injuries described as relatively minor.
