Driver crashes while trying to avoid police roadblock

Victoria police had to deal with a pair of drivers trying to avoid CounterAttack roadblocks on the weekend. The first incident was at a Johnson Street Bridge roadblock at 1 a.m. Sunday.

Victoria police had to deal with a pair of drivers trying to avoid CounterAttack roadblocks on the weekend.

The first incident was at a Johnson Street Bridge roadblock at 1 a.m. Sunday. A driver fled southbound on Wharf Street after he was asked for his licence. Police did not say whether he was caught.

A few hours later, a driver appeared to be trying get around a roadblock when he swerved onto Harbour Road from Tyee Road.

Officers followed with lights and sirens activated in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but it turned out it had crashed at the end of Harbour Road.

The vehicle went through a fence, into a construction site and ended up on its side.

The driver tried to flee but was arrested. He was assessed by paramedics.

An impaired-driving investigation is ongoing.
