Work has begun on a development behind the former Tally Ho Motel site on Douglas Street, where 154 units of housing are being built. The six-storey project at 3020 Douglas St. and 584 Burnside Rd. East includes 100 affordable rental apartments, 54 subsidized supportive-housing units operated by Victoria Cool Aid Society, and 32,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Plans include 36 daycare spaces operated by Beacon Community Services, a coffee shop and public plaza. Residents of the former motel, which is being used as temporary supportive housing for 51 people, will have the option of moving into the new supportive units when they’re completed. Construction is expected to be finished in winter 2023.
