Victoria police and fire investigators are asking for the public’s help as they look into a downtown building-site fire that appears to have been deliberately set. The fire alarm was first raised just after 1 a.m.

Victoria police and fire investigators are asking for the public’s help as they look into a downtown building-site fire that appears to have been deliberately set.

The fire alarm was first raised just after 1 a.m. on Thursday at the construction site at the Customs House building, 816 Government St. Victoria firefighters responded and quickly doused the flames.

No one was hurt, but damage to material and equipment is believed to be in the tens of thousands of dollars. Investigators determined the fire was suspicious and likely caused by arson.

Investigators are asking witnesses or anybody with any information about the fire to call the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654.
