School may be out for spring break but parents in three Island schools have been asked to keep an eye on their children after reports of possible exposure to COVID-19.

Island Health, working with the school district, is warning of two possible exposures at Spectrum Community School. The first is a period between March 8 to 11 and the second on March 10 and 11.

A COVID-19 notification also went out to parents of students attending South Park Family School. Potential dates for exposure are between March 8 and 12.

In the Nanaimo-Ladysmith district, Brechin Elementary School had exposures on March 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 12.

Island Health defines exposure at a school as when a single individual with a confirmed case of the virus attends classes during their infectious period.

The health authority will contact individuals directly if there as a need to self-isolate. Parents can monitor their children for symptoms.

As of Monday afternoon, 12 schools were on Island Health’s list of recent exposures. Schools are removed 14 days after the most recent date of exposure.

Spring break is scheduled to end March 29.
