Thousands of Canada Post business customers have received apologies after an computer error sent out invoices with links that might have included information about their businesses on Friday.
Emails were sent to about 8,000 customers, including the Times Colonist, between 1 and 9:30 a.m. EST, said Denise Portugaise, the corporation’s general manager of customer relationship support, in a notice sent to customers.
The email “contained links to invoices which were sent in error, and may have included information about your business,” Portugaise wrote. “As soon as we were aware of the issue, we disabled all links to the documents and shut down any access.
“We sincerely apologize for this error and are doing further investigation to fully understand any impact as we understand it will be of concern.”
The problem was caused by a manual code update error and steps are being taken to ensure it does not happen again, Portugaise wrote.
