Island Health was rebooking COVID-19 immunization appointments at clinics in Comox and Langford on Tuesday due to the heat wave enveloping the province.
All appointments at Glacier Gardens Arena in Comox on Tuesday were rescheduled, along with all of Wednesday afternoon appointments. Despite mitigation measures, officials decided the unusually high temperatures and lack of air conditioning posed too high a risk. The clinic closed early Monday.
The Langford clinic at the Eagle Ridge Arena ran until just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, but all remaining appointments were rebooked for Wednesday.
Everyone affected will be directly contacted and rebooked. The health authority is trying to add additional appointments to expedite the process.
In Crofton, a pop-up clinic opened Tuesday for people who are 12 or older this year and haven’t yet received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
The clinic operates every day until Saturday — including Canada Day — from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Warmland Church, 1586 Joan Ave.
People wanting a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine should book an appointment through the province’s Get Vaccinated system.
Island Health continues to offer a limited number of first-dose walk-in appointments each day at mass immunization clinics.
