It may be time to layer up and dust off the tuques and mittens — it’s about to get cold across Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement ahead of an expected transition to “much colder conditions” throughout the province.

According to Environment Canada, cold arctic air is currently pushing south through the B.C. Interior, and will be heading toward the coast through the weekend, meaning it is expected to remain cold through the entire week.

Temperatures are expected to be 10 to 20 degrees below the seasonal average inland, while on the coast expect temperatures to be five five to 10 degrees below seasonal.
