Port McNeill remains under a boil water advisory until it gets two clear samples in a row.

The Port McNeill Water System said last Wednesday that trace amounts of E. coli had been detected during routine testing and that a boil water notice would be in place “until the Town and Island Health are satisfied that the water is safe to consume.”

Samples taken on Aug. 13 came back clear with no signs of bacteria. Further tests were carried out Monday, with results expected Tuesday.

Two consecutive clear sets of samples are needed to lift the boil water notice.

Any water that will be used for drinking, making ice, cooking, washing food or brushing teeth should be brought to a rolling boil for at least a minute before using it. Hand sanitizer is advised after washing hands with tap water. Using an alternate safe of source water such as bottled water is also an option.
