B.C. reports five COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care homes, three deaths

Five independent and assisted living care homes in B.C. are dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks, health officials say. None of the facilities is on Vancouver Island. Four of the outbreaks are in the Fraser Health region while one is in Northern Health.

Five independent and assisted living care homes in B.C. are dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks, health officials say. None of the facilities is on Vancouver Island.

Four of the outbreaks are in the Fraser Health region while one is in Northern Health. An outbreak at the Care Centre at Hollyburn House in Vancouver Coastal Health is over.

Officials say the province reported 87 new cases of COVID-19 over a three-day period, bringing the number of infections to date to 147,790.

One new case was confirmed in the Island Health region, where there are 11 known active cases of COVID-19. There have been a total of 5,161 cases in the region.

Officials also reported three additional COVID-19-related fatalities, one each in the Vancouver Coast, Interior and Northern health regions.

More than 78 per cent of those eligible in B.C. have now received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 36 per cent have had a second shot.
