Victoria police are investigating an assault at an apartment building in the 1000-block of Esquimalt Road Wednesday evening.
Police received a report of an assault at the building just before 7 p.m. When officers arrived, they found an injured person. The victim was treated and taken to hospital by paramedics.
Officers learned that the suspect was in an apartment in the building. When they tried to arrest him, he barricaded himself inside.
Police blocked off Esquimalt Road and called out the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, along with crisis negotiators and additional officers, including the canine unit.
Just before 10 p.m., the man was taken into custody.
