Saanich major crime detectives have concluded that a fire in a Saanich rooming home early Wednesday morning is no longer regarded as suspicious and there was no criminality surrounding what caused the fire.

“Furthermore, all persons believed to be residing at the home have been accounted for,” said Const. Markus Anastasiades.

The blaze at 95 Battleford Ave., which runs parallel to the Trans-Canada Highway near Tillicum Road, has been turned back to Saanich Fire Department investigators.

Firefighters were called to the home about 1:15 a.m. and found it engulfed in flames.

Because damage was so extensive, the cause of the fire may take a while to determine.
