The 900-block of Johnson Street will be closed for three days starting Monday as a large tower crane is removed.

Johnson will be closed between Quadra and Vancouver streets from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily while the crane is disassembled.

The crane, in a parking lot on the south side of the street, was used in construction of a 15-storey condominium by Cox Developments at 939 Johnson St.

People who live and work in the 900-block of Johnson will be granted access and the north sidewalk will stay open for pedestrians, the City of Victoria said. Cyclists will be required to dismount and walk their bikes.

B.C. Transit has been notified of the closure and buses will be rerouted. Local businesses have been notified.

High winds or mechanical issues could extend the work until Thursday.

The public is asked to use caution while travelling near the construction zone and to obey traffic control personnel and signs.

On April 27 in Seattle, a crane that was being dismantled collapsed, killing four, including two people who were in cars below.
