230 new COVID cases in Island Health over weekend, three more deaths

The province reported 2,239 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, including 230 in Island Health, which also saw three new deaths.

That’s up from the 1,692 new cases reported the previous weekend, including 204 new cases in Island Health reported on Sept. 20.

The total number of active cases in the province was 6,098 on Monday.

Of the active cases in B.C., 303 are in hospital, of whom 141 are in intensive care units. A week earlier, there were 307 people in hospital, including 156 in intensive care.

In Island Health, there were 657 active cases on Monday — roughly the same as last week — including 32 in hospital, of whom 18 are in intensive care.

The province reported 18 new deaths over the weekend, including the three in Island Health. A total of 1,940 people have died of COVID-related causes since the start of the pandemic.

There are now 21 outbreaks in long-term care and assisted living in B.C.

On Monday, 80.5 per cent or 3.7 million eligible people age 12 and older were fully vaccinated with two shots of COVID vaccine in B.C.
