Teacher faces drug-dealing charges

VANCOUVER — A Surrey substitute teacher is facing criminal charges after police allege he was dealing drugs near an elementary school in Vancouver. Eugenio Alfonso Bahamonde, 41, is charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, said Richmond RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley. On Nov. 7, plainclothes officers witnessed a driver make a drug transaction with a pedestrian near Sir Guy Carleton elementary school, Turley said. The man was pulled over in a nearby parking lot, where he was arrested. Officers searched the vehicle and found marijuana and evidence of drug trafficking, Turley said. Bahamonde, who is set to appear in court Jan. 16, has been suspended from teaching.
