Officials believe a woman whose body was found at a Pitt Meadows blueberry farm last weekend might have been killed by a bear.

In a post shared to Facebook on Friday, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service said the woman’s body was found in a field along Old Dewdney Trunk Road, near McKechnie Road, on Sunday.

While the Conservation Officer Service initially thought her body had been “disturbed by an animal,” they’re now looking into whether a bear might have been involved in her death.

“The Conservation Officer Service is urging the public to take precautions in the Pitt Meadows area where a woman’s body was found as they investigate the possibility of an animal attack,” the service said in the post.

“The COS is continuing to assist the RCMP in their investigation and are working to determine whether an animal, such as a black bear, may have been involved in this incident.”

The Conservation Officer Service has asked the public to report any sightings of aggressive black bears in the area to the Report All Poachers and Polluters hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
