A serious rollover crash on the Coquihalla Highway killed one and seriously injured several others, including a child who suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police and emergency crews were called to the crash Saturday just after 8:30 a.m., on Highway 5 north of Hope.

“First responders arrived on scene to find a heavily damaged grey Mazda CX-9 on its side,” said B.C. RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Two adults and two children sustained varying degrees of injuries, all serious and many considered to be potentially life-threatening in nature …

“Sadly, a fifth occupant of the vehicle, a woman in her 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Both surviving adults were airlifted to hospitals in the Lower Mainland in serious condition. Both the man and woman were in emergency surgery on Saturday evening.

One of the children was taken by air ambulance to B.C. Children’s Hospital in critical condition, while the other had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The B.C. Highway Patrol and B.C. Coroners Service are investigating.

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to call Chilliwack Highway Patrol at 604-702-4039.
