First-round selections Richards, Philpot among draftees signed by Alouettes

MONTREAL — Linebacker Tyrell Richards, the first player taken in the 2022 CFL draft, was among eight selections signed Friday by the Montreal Alouettes.

The six-foot-four, 218-pound Richards, of Brampton, Ont., played three seasons for the Syracuse Orange. He was named Syracuse's 2019 special-teams player.

Calgary receiver Tyson Philpot, taken in the first round (ninth overall) by Montreal, also signed. Philpot had 41 catches for 746 yards and nine TDs last season for the Dinos.

Also signing with Montreal were Alberta offensive lineman Rodeem Brown (second round), Laval receiver Vincent Forbes-Mombleau (third round), Montreal defensive back Tysen-Otis Copeland (fourth round), Alberta offensive lineman Peter Kozushka (sixth round), Laval linebacker Yanis Chihat (seventh round) and Western linebacker Zach Lindley (eighth round).

The club also added American offensive linemen Justin Chase and Mark Brooks as well as Canadian offensive lineman Chris Fournier to the roster.
