MANIGOTAGAN, Man. — Manitoba RCMP are investigating the death of a man apparently killed in a tent by a falling tree.

Police responded to a call early Monday about a sudden death at a campground at Manigotagan near Lake Winnipeg.

Officers were told that during a thunderstorm that produced high winds, a large tree fell onto a tent where a man and woman had been sleeping.

Several nearby campers heard the woman call for help and came to her aid.

The fallen tree had to be cut in order for the two to be freed.

The 60-year-old man from Winnipeg was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP say the woman was not physically injured.
