A 20-year-old Winnipeg man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for terrorizing a family during a violent home invasion.

Judge Rob Finlayson called the crime sickening before delivering his sentence in the packed courtroom.

The man, who pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault and forcible confinement, sat glaring at the judge as his victims broke down in tears.

Court heard the man broke into the home at knifepoint before throwing the father down the stairs, stabbing him and forcing the rest of the family to perform sexual acts on each other. Media have not identified the man in order to publish details about his involvement with the justice system when he was a youth.
