Major donations extend our literacy drive

We had planned to stop taking donations for the Times Colonist Literacy Society by now, but many of you disagreed with that idea – we know, because the donations have continued to arrive. So let’s keep in going for another week or so.

We had planned to stop taking donations for the Times Colonist Literacy Society by now, but many of you disagreed with that idea – we know, because the donations have continued to arrive.

So let’s keep in going for another week or so.

The fund has reached $102,300, an amount far beyond our wildest guesses. It was pushed much higher late last week with two large donations, including a $25,000 gift from a donor who has asked to remain anonymous.

There might not be another donation of that size waiting for us, but we are sure that many smaller donations will arrive in the next few days.

This fundraiser helps literacy organizations and school libraries throughout our readership area.

We have raised money through annual book sales since 1998, but COVID-19 forced the cancellation of what would have been our 23rd book drive and sale.

We are eager to see the book sale return in 2021, and we promise to make that one the best one yet.

In the meantime, we will raise what we can – with your help, that is.

The more we raise, the more the fund will get from Decoda Literacy Solutions, which distributes money from the provincial government. And that means more money for literacy work on Vancouver Island.

There is still time to give. Thanks for your support!
