Youths report being robbed at gunpoint; police forces team up to arrest suspect

A man believed to have been involved in an armed robbery Saturday night is in police custody thanks to a joint effort of police forces from around the region.

Victoria and Saanich officers alongside members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team descended on a multi-family residential building in the 3200 block of Douglas Street Sunday afternoon and managed to get the suspect to surrender to police without incident.

The suspect is believed to have been involved in a robbery Saturday in Victoria around 8 p.m.

Patrol officers responded to a report that two youths had been robbed at gunpoint in the 3100-block of Douglas Street by a man on a bicycle.

The suspect reportedly approached the teenagers, showed a firearm, and stole a number of personal items from them. No one was physically injured.

Victoria police, Saanich police and members of the Integrated Canine Service responded Saturday evening but despite a lengthy search of the area, the suspect was not found.

The suspect was eventually tracked to the apartment building on Sunday.

A second occupant of the suite was also arrested and later released at the scene.

Victoria police are still investigating the robbery and ask anyone with information to contact them at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
