With above-average temperatures and no significant rain since before the start of July, summer weather is firmly in place in the capital region.

No temperature records have been set in the recent sunny stretch. Wednesday hit 22 C, according to Environment Canada, well below the record 33.3 C set in 1941.

Environment Canada meteorologist David Jones said there are nothing but blue skies ahead. Beginning today, the forecast calls for temperatures to hit 25 C for three days, followed by two days at 23 C.

The hot dry conditions will continue for another few days beyond that, with overnight lows hitting the seasonal average of 12 or 13.

The thunderstorm threat that came up Tuesday has passed, Jones said.

The B.C. Forest Service’s Coastal Fire Centre, which includes Vancouver Island, has had a category-two, open-fire prohibition in place since June 21 that bans backyard burning.

The Coastal Fire Centre does not have a campfire ban in effect, but the public is advised to check with municipalities and regional districts since their regulations take precedence.
