A woman was arrested by Victoria police and weapons and a stolen bike were seized in a weekend incident at Topaz Park.
On Saturday, an officer saw a woman with a bike he recognized as having been reported stolen the previous day during a Saanich break-in. The Juliana Joplin mountain bike is worth about $8,000.
When the woman was searched, a collapsible steel baton, a knife and a hatchet were found.
Police said the woman was prohibited from possessing weapons and has to have written permission to possess a bike.
Police have said the number of calls for them in the park area is up considerably since a tent city was established to help the homeless deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Property crime has gone from six reported incidents in the week of March 15-21 to 20 incidents in the week of April 12-18. — Times Colonist
