Woman, 22, accused of biting mother

A 22-year-old woman was arrested by Victoria police after allegedly biting her 53-year-old mother in the face on Thursday.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested by Victoria police after allegedly biting her 53-year-old mother in the face on Thursday.

Police were called to a rowhouse in Evergreen Terrace, on Blanshard Street near Hillside Avenue, after a fight spilled onto the sidewalk.

"Our officers responded to a domestic situation," Insp. Jamie Pearce said. There were reports that the woman had a knife, he said.

The mother was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

Police surrounded the house, thinking the daughter was still inside.

However, the woman escaped out the back and was located nearby on the grounds of the former Canada West University, Pearce said.

The woman was taken into custody and faces charges of assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and two breaches of court conditions, Pearce said.

As more than half a dozen police cars blocked the lane on Blanshard Street in front of the B.C. Housing complex, neighbours stood in groups watching the drama unfold.

Kevin Douglas, who lives two doors away, said he tried to help when the woman came running out of the house.

"She had a huge bite on her face and cuts on her arm," he said.

Alcohol appeared to be involved in the dispute, police said in a statement. jlavoie@timescolonist.com
